MTV Dodges Essence Infringement Claims, For Now

Law360, Los Angeles (April 2, 2012, 7:57 PM EDT) — A California federal judge on Monday dismissed most copyright infringement claims from a suit accusing MTV Networks and other broadcasters and entertainment companies of airing TV One LLC’s exclusive coverage of the Essence Music Festival without permission.

U.S. District Judge Margaret M. Morrow on Monday granted defense motions to dismiss copyright infringement, interference with contract, and other claims against MTV, Black Entertainment Television LLC, NorthStar Media Inc. and Music World Music LLC, leaving a single copyright infringement claim against BET Networks that the company had not sought to dismiss.
