Tfue’s lawyer explains why FaZe Clan lawsuit is “an absolute gift”

The lawyer of Fortnite star Turner ‘Tfue’ Tenney has explained why FaZe Clan’s lawsuit of his client is “an absolute gift,” and noted how he was close to celebration when he received the complaint.

Ever since May, Tfue and FaZe have been stuck in a very public legal battle over the Fortnite professional’s contract.

Tenney pulled the first punch when it was revealed that he was suing the esports organization over an “oppressive” contract. Said document was reportedly leaked a few weeks later, giving everyone an inside look and why he was making a complaint.

The two parties have gone back and forth, with FaZe Banks making an emotional 20-minute long video giving his side of the story.

While things went quiet for a little while, FaZe returned fire in early August by counter-suing Tenney for ‘betrayal’ and breach of contract. Yet, that counter-complaint has been seen as an absolute gift by Tfue’s lawyer Bryan Freedman.

Speaking to theScore esports, breaking down the latest filing in the case, Tfue’s representative explained:

“The real fact is that FaZe Clan asked the labor commissioner to try and delay that case – to try to avoid responsibility for violating California’s talent agency act by operating as an unlicensed talent agency.

“They’re trying to avoid judgment day in the state of California by picking a jurisdiction of New York that has nothing to do with anything other than to allow them to violate California law.”

Freedman also added that FaZe claimed they wouldn’t try and collect on money owed to them in the contract and now he was confused that they were coming for that cash.

While if that wasn’t enough to sell his side of the argument, Freeman also noted that he was close to celebration when he discovered that the counter-case had been filed in New York and not California.

“After I read the complaint, I actually had to check the date on the calendar because I thought it was Christmas – I thought someone had given my client a present,” he said. “This complaint filed in New York is an absolute gift.”

Whether or not Freedman gets his “absolute gift” still remains to be seen as the two parties have not yet appeared in court and there have been no further updates since the start of August.

As ever, when things do change on that front, we will keep you updated with all the latest news.
