WBO – Resolution of the World Championship Committe | Re: WBO JR. Lightweight Division / Mikey Garcia

WHEREAS, on October 8, 2014 the WBO World Championship Committee sent a letter to inquire about MIguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia’s availability to defend his WBO Junior Lightweight title against interim title holder Orlando “Siri” Salido, as per our Regulations of World Championship Contests.

WHEREAS, on October 13, 2014 WBO President Francisco Valcarcel and this WBO Championship Committee received a letter response from Bryan J. Freedman, Esq. on behalf of Mr. Garcia, stating that Garcia would be unable to defend his WBO Junior Lightweight title against Salido, for the sole reason that he can no longer make weight in the Junior Lightweigt (130 pounds) or Lightweigt (135 pounds) Divisions.

NOW, THEREFORE, according to our Regulations the WBO World Championship Committe determines that:

1. Ordering negotiations for a WBO Junior Lightweight Championship Contest between Garcia and Salido would be academic at this point; and,

2. Interim WBO titlist Orlando Salido be elevated to full titleholder at the WBO Junior Lightweight Division; and,

FURTHER RECOMMENDS to the WBO Classifications Committee that, in light of his trajectory and having won titles in two weight classes, Garcia now be ranked within the top 10 contenders in the Junior Welterweight (140 lbs.) Division.
